SKY on Bowen: Seniors Keeping Young

SKY and Bowen Island Museum and Archives host islander for a Summer Social Tea on Saturday June 13th, 1-4pm

The Bowen Island Museum & Archives will come alive with laughter, music and the familiar clink of tea cups as residents of our island gather for the fourth annual Summer Social Tea. Attendees will enjoy delicious food generously donated by local eateries (Artisan Eats, Barcelona Tapas, Bowen Island Pub, The Ruddy, The Snug Cafe, Tell Your Friends, and Tippy's) while listening to music by Bowen musicians Arthur and Leo Szabo.

A highlight this year will be a special tribute to Marc Gawthrop and Tina Nielsen. Marc has been a steadfast presence at SKY's "Musical Movements" sessions every Tuesday morning at Bowen Court, playing piano and inspiring seniors to embrace dancing as healthy movement. Tina, as Chief Librarian at Bowen Island Public Library, has championed initiatives for older adults that promote learning, health, and safety. Tina spearheaded the 100th Anniversary of the General Store project in collaboration with heritage and cultural organizations on the island, including the Museum & Archives.

The Summer Social Tea, held annually in June, welcomes participants of all ages. Its mission is to bridge generations and reinforce the idea that community knows no age limits. Joining together in shared activities is what keeps everyone young at heart.

All are invited for a delightful afternoon on Saturday June 13th from 1 - 4pm at the Museum & Archives on Bowen Trunk Road.
