About the event
Come join us on our trek to the wild bird sanctuary at Maplewood Flats Conservation Area
This expansive 126 hectare conservation area is managed by the Wild Bird Trust of British Columbia and is a premier bird-watching site on Vancouver’s North Shore. It sits along Burrard Inlet and supports tidal mudflats, salt marsh, ponds, and upland habitat that attract migratory and resident birds. Over 230 species have been observed here, from waterfowl and shorebirds to raptors and songbirds. The well-kept, mostly flat gravel trails total more than 3 km and are marked for easy self-guided walks. You can pause at viewing platforms and look for birds with help from the sighting boards posted at the entrance.
It’s a 45-minute walk on a flat, gravel path. After our walk, the coach bus will take us to Deep Cove for restaurants, shops, and the beach.
